Virtual Singapore: connected data at urban scale

Virtual Singapore illustrates an approach in which 3D representation integrates data from different sources to support urban analysis. For construction, the main lesson is how that shared foundation is organized.

Virtual Singapore: connected data at urban scale

Dassault Systèmes, the project's platform supplier, describes the integration of public-agency information, historical data and real-time data in a controlled collaborative environment.

One foundation, different questions

Planning, simulation and consultation may need different representations of the same territory. The architectural challenge is to support these uses without creating disconnected copies of information.

Identify what objects mean

Knowing what an object represents is as important as knowing its shape. Identifiers and attributes support filtering, information relationships and explicit analysis criteria.

Assign responsibility for data

Information needs an owner, an origin and an update rule. Integration does not remove those responsibilities; it makes them more important to define.

Scale the principle to a construction site

A site does not need to reproduce an entire digital city's complexity. It can start with a smaller foundation that accommodates models, captures and issues while preserving versions and relationships.

The Panpo perspective

From reference to application

For Panpo, this is an architectural reference, not a claim of product equivalence. New Geminarium modules should extend the usefulness of existing data rather than create parallel systems.
